Humans are complex creatures, they can be caring, cunning, ruthless, loving and so on. In the days of war and hatred, there are incidents that make us human rather talking animals. It was the good luck of this guy that he came in contact with Nehal Khan. the man was found under a pile of garbage in Khidderpore in 2007 by an NGO. The NGO tried to feed him and give him medicine but he refused it. After that, they learned that Nehal Khan used to offer him food everyday and strangely this unnamed guy didn’t refuse Nehal. The NGO contacted Nehal and requested him to convince the man to have his food and medicines. Since that day Nehal Khan took him in. the locals gave this man a name, ‘Abdullah’. Abdullah started working as a helper at Nehal’s shop, ‘Nehal Stores’ located in Orphungunge Market, Khidderpore.
Abdullah was suffering from schizophrenia, as a result, he had no memory of his past life, he even couldn’t recall his name. With time Abdullah started recovering, he also started reading newspapers. In 2010, Abdullah started remembering stuff and it was not long when he finally recalled his identity. He was not Abdullah anymore, he remembered that he is Suresh GovindKamble and he worked at Kulkarni Hospital in Miraj. Kamble lived in the Sangli district of Maharashtra and worked as an X-ray technician. After losing his job in 1989 mentally disturbed Kamble left home and landed in Kolkata in 2003. He lost his memories during this process.
Kamble’s son Mithunwas only four-years-old when he left the house. On 16th June after collecting his father’s death certificate from the local municipality, Mithun learned that his father is still alive and is in Kolkata. he got in touch with the NGO that rescued him. They arranged a video call for Kamble and his son but Kamble refused to return home. After a lot of coaxing Kamble agreed to return home to his family, but parting with Nehal was not easy, who has been his friend, employer, and caregiver for the past 12 years. It was hard for both of them. Kamble who has been Abdullah for so many years says,
“I have been comfortable with both these identities, Abdullah and Suresh Kamble. The people of Khidderpore gave me that name Abdullah when I could not recall who I was. They took care of me and provided me an identity, so how can I discard this name now.”
Nehal is equally upset and says,
“I am feeling that I am losing a friend. But I am happy for his family.”
Earlier this week Kamble reunited with his family and finally, gotthe missing part of his life back.
