Percussionist Ratul Shankar happens to be the grandson of Uday Shankar, grandnephew of renowned sitarist Ravi Shankar and son of celebrated dancer and actor Mamata Shankar. Born in the Shankar family, Ratul was exposed to the various forms of performing arts from a very young age. He had been touring with his parents Mamata Shankar and Chandrodoy Ghosh from a young age of 2 years and has been influenced deeply for which he had developed a deep interest in performing arts. He has received his training from Pandit Tanmoy Bose and had the honour of performing in his noted project ‘Taal Tantra’. Ratul made his debut in acting with celebrated director Rituporno Ghosh in the National Award winning film ‘Utsab’ in the year 2000. Having completed his higher education in Mass Communication & Videography from St. Xavier's College, he has shifted his niche towards performing arts.
