Water is an essential building block of our life, although it is sad, but for a fact, 783 million people around the globe still do not have access to clean water. Over 2.5 million people are still suffering from lack of adequate sanitation facilities. This is why United Nations established World Water Day.
World water day is celebrated every year on 22nd of March, by people all across the globe. The day was established by the United Nations general assembly in the year 1993, as an annual event. This campaign was declared to increase the awareness among the people about the need, importance and conservation of water.
United Nation Assembly selects a theme for each year. The theme for 2018 is “Nature for water “, the main motive behind this theme is to encourage people to “look for the answers in nature”. For example – nature based solutions could be implemented to reduce floods, droughts, water pollution and to protect ecosystem.
Water is a precious commodity which people are taking for granted. World water is day is a chance to think about those people and places, where water needs are still of prime importance, and seek to work together to take out a solution for the betterment of the planet.
