Multinational IT corporation Wipro has decided to build a second campus in Kolkata and is willing to invest Rs 500 crore in the new project. This new project was basically a decade-old project which was stalled and is now being revived. This new venture will be creating 10,000 jobs in the state. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently announced about this new venture of Wipro and said, “Let me give you two good news. One is that Wipro is again coming to Bengal. About 10,000 youths will get jobs. They are taking 50 acres. They have already agreed”. For the new project, Wipro has been allotted a 50-acre plot in Rajarhat by the West Bengal government. After the final approval of the state government cabinet, the IT company is set to build the first phase of the campus within a year. Wipro officials have reported that this new facility will focus on software development whereas the existing one situated in Sector V mostly works on business process outsourcing. Wipro’s existing campus in Bengal is located across 25 acres in Salt Lake Sector V and currently employs 8,000 people.
