The term 'Tram' was first heard in Kolkata on 24th February 1873 and since then the city has seen the 'Tram' as one of the most interesting things to keep and till date, Trams are much prevalent in the city. The interesting part is that Kolkata has held on to the heritage by preserving trams since the time it first appeared.
Smaranika, the Tram Museum in Kolkata which is located in the CTC terminus in Esplanade has trams which were first seen in Kolkata. Smaranika is a tram archive of sorts. It houses the old horse drawn trams as well as the flat wagon Trams and also the first electric tram. It has rather surprisingly preserved the old tram tickets till date! Smaranika is one of the most interesting places to visit in the city of joy which also gives imparts knowledge on the city's heritage and authentic culture.
