On August 23, the lander Vikram took its first step on the lunar soil. On that day, just a few hours later, the rover Pragyan came out and started walking towards the moon's south pole. Pragyan started its work after imprinting India's national emblem and ISRO's logo on the lunar surface.
Chandrayaan 3 made its historic'smooth landing' on August 23, 2023, at 6:04 p.m. IST, on the surface of the moon. India is the first country to softly land a spacecraft on the moon’s south pole, among other countries in the world.
According to the scientists, one day on the moon is equal to 14 days on Earth. So there will be 14 days and nights on the moon. The scientists have said that when the sun sets, the temperature tends to drop rapidly to minus 180 degrees Celsius or even lower. So from August 23, 2023, until the next 14 consecutive days, Pragyan and Vikram will gradually become inactive. All the equipment inside them will also become nerveless. But ISRO scientists are optimistic that Vikram and Pragyan can be relaunched after 28 days when the sun shines again. This is considered to be a good point for India's Chandrayaan mission.
Scientists have said that after successful experiments on the lunar soil, the lander Vikram and rover Pragyan will become permanent inhabitants of the moon. ISRO scientists didn't make any other plans for their return to Earth.
Currently, the Pragyan rover is examining the mineral composition on the lunar surface. The moon soil has a composition of magnesium, aluminium, silicon, potassium, calcium, iron, and titanium. Experiments are underway on lunar soil and rocks around the South Pole.
