What is the smallest country in the world?

We all know about the largest countries in the world. But which is the smallest country? What is its population?

The name of the world’s smallest country is Vatican City. Internationally, it is the smallest independent state in the world. In 1929 the country became independent through the Lateran Treaty signed between Italian Prime Minister Benito Mussolini and Pope Pius XI. Vatican City's population is tiny. There are living only 825 residents.

Vatican City is tiny compared to large countries like Russia, India, and England. This country is located within the capital city of Rome, Italy. Despite its size, Vatican City has its own post office, radio station, telephone system, and currency.

Additionally, this country is popular among people from a religious perspective. Since the establishment of St. Peter Basilica by Constantine, it has been one of the centers of Christianity. It also plays an important role as an archaeological site.
