What is so curious about Santosh Mitra Square?

Before reading this article, we strictly confirm that this one is not about Durga Puja of Santosh Mitra Square. This post is not about Durga Puja either, well the picture is just a tease.

This article will revolve around the gentleman in whose memorial that park was renamed from St. James Square. Heritage experts will come up with a weird explanation saying that park was named after veteran Bengali actor Santosh Dutta. We live in the era when many proud Bengalis think Bagha Jatin and Jatin Das are one and the same person (which is totally wrong). Walk down the narrow lane of Bowbazar, you will accidentally land inside the non-descriptive Haldhar Bardhan Lane. A memorial plaque of martyr Santosh Kumar Mitra will grab your attention instantly. The content of the plaque in Bengali state:

Hijli detention camp is the place where a brutal shootout marked a vicious lace with gore and blood. Later, the Detention camp was converted into ‘Hijli Shaheed Bhavan’.

The park named after martyr Santosh Kumar Mitra as a token of love. In the cyber world, one won’t any such description regarding such incident. Santosh Kumar Mitra was among the many ‘sacrificing souls’ who was jailed with many others. The house at 9c Haldadhar Bardhan Lane, where Mitra was born has become a place of mitigating striking. Unfortunately, not everyone likes to dig past. Mitra was a brilliant student of Calcutta University. He passed his Matriculation in the year 1915 and completed B.A in 1919. He even completed his M.A and LLB.
No one of the family stays there anymore. When he was born on 15th August 1900, little did anyone know that 47 years later India would get its Independence on the same date?

Mitra had a brilliant career, still, he opted out to throw it for the sake of the country.
