Do you know what testosterone can do to men? This hormone actually steers men towards the luxury brands. Surprising right? University of Pennsylvania came up with their research work and found out something very weird. “This is likely, because testosterone plays a role in behaviours that relate to social rank (in animals), and owning status-products is a strategy to signal one’s rank within human social hierarchies,” said author Gideon Nave.
Be it watches, cars or clothes - these exhibit social status but the hormone that regulates the tendency of buying these was unknown. It is found that men who have high levels of testosterone are highly affectionate towards famous brands.
Nave added, “The use of brands to indicate status does not essentially have to ‘work’, it’s enough that the men believe it works.”
The researchers have also put forward their theory that shows choice of the products differ across cultures.
