The Alipore Meteorological Office has issued a forecast indicating heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds throughout the week in West Bengal. There is even a possibility of cyclonic storms forming in the region.
Moderate to heavy rainfall, coupled with thunderstorms, is expected in all districts of South Bengal on Tuesday and Wednesday. Additionally, wind speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are likely during these rainy spells.
Thursday is anticipated to be dry in South Bengal. However, several districts, including Kolkata, 24 Parganas (North and South), Medinipur (East and West), Howrah, Hooghly, Jhargram, Bankura, and Nadia, may experience heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday. Moreover, there's a chance of very heavy rainfall in four districts of the southern region.
The Meteorological Office has advised fishermen against venturing into the sea due to the impending cyclonic weather conditions.
North Bengal is also expected to witness thunderstorms with lightning and moderate to heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday. Wind speeds of 30 to 50 kilometres per hour are expected during this period. However, there is no indication of cyclonic activity in North Bengal.
The Alipore Meteorological Office has also raised concerns about the possibility of thunderstorms and a low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal, particularly near the Bengal coast.
There is a likelihood of a low-pressure area forming in the south-east Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea by Thursday. This system could subsequently intensify and move northeastward.
In Kolkata, partly cloudy skies are expected on Tuesday, with a chance of thunderstorms and lightning. The minimum temperature recorded on Tuesday morning was 25.9 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal. Yesterday, the maximum temperature in the city was 35.4 degrees Celsius, which was 0.4 degrees below normal.
