West Bengal is bracing for even hotter days ahead, with temperatures set to soar during the weekend. Despite the scorching weather conditions, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination is scheduled to take place this Sunday. In anticipation of the heatwave, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Board has instructed every examination centre to ensure an adequate supply of water and ORS, along with the provision of backup generators.
The Chairman of the Board, Malayendu Saha, emphasised the necessity of maintaining generator facilities in light of the extreme weather. He informed centre incharges that arrangements must be made to accommodate any potential power fluctuations caused by increased load during the examination. Additionally, instructions have been issued to ensure the availability of water and ORS, as students will not be allowed to bring bottles into the examination halls.
The examination will commence at 11 a.m. with the first paper on mathematics and will continue until 1 p.m. The second paper on physics and chemistry will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saha urged candidates to arrive early at their respective centres to avoid any inconvenience, emphasising the importance of punctuality.
This year, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination has witnessed a record number of applications, with over 177,000 candidates registered to appear. Consequently, the number of examination centres has also increased to 388, compared to 306 last year, including two centres in Tripura and one in Assam.
As in previous years, handheld metal detectors will be available at each examination centre for security purposes. Saha further revealed that centres with a higher number of candidates will be equipped with multiple detectors. Additionally, approximately 90 former professors and retired vice chancellors will supervise the examination centres.
Saha expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the state administration at all levels in facilitating the smooth conduct of the examination. Stringent measures have been implemented to ensure the safety and convenience of candidates, including the allocation of centres closer to their residences and the maintenance of essential services, such as transportation, during the examination period.
