The West Bengal Government has given out land allotment letters to twelve leather industries of the city out of 100 who had applied for land in the state. The land allotment letters were given out by micro, small and medium enterprises department of the West Bengal government during the global business summit held in Kolkata recently. The land allotment letters were handed over to the entrepreneurs by the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee. Javed Iqbal, Chairman of Central Region Council for Leather Export said, “So far twelve leather industries have got the letters of allotment and more industries would figure in the second list. The last two years have been very difficult for the leather industry, specially the tanneries, as they have lost orders worth crores of rupees from European countries due to the policies of the present political dispensation and shifting of tanneries in a new area in the city”. Another leather entrepreneur Ashraf Rizwan said, "West Bengal has proved to be an ideal place where land is cheaper having facilities of an international airport and a port".
