The Government of West Bengal has appointed Rina Mitra as the state’s Principal Advisor of Internal Security, a post which has been created recently. Rina Mitra is a retired IPS Officer of the 1983 batch of Madhya Pradesh cadre. She was also previously shortlisted for CBI director and has served as a special secretary of internal security in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Similar to West Bengal Government’s new post of State Security Advisor (SSA) which is currently occupied by former DGP Surajit Kar Purkayastha, the post of Principal Advisor of Internal Security is newly created and Mitra is going to be the first to assume the office of the post. The state Home and Hill Affairs department stated that a notification related to Principal Advisor’s service will be notified soon along with terms and conditions of the service.
