20th April 2018, evening started with the perfectly curated ceremony in the graceful presence of one of the destructive players in the history of cricket, Virender Sehwag along with Jhulan Goswami, (former Captain of the Indian Women’s cricket team) and Manoj Tiwary. On the very same day, Manoj Tiwary and Jhulan Goswami launched the Bengali version of the legendary book of Mr Boria Majumdar ‘Eleven Gods and A Billion Indians’ namely ‘ঈশ্বর একাদশ ও শতকোটি ভারতীয়’.
Saurav Ganguly and Virat Kohli earlier had launched the English version of the book on 7th April 2017. Mr Majumdar was elated to have Sehwag looking at his museum and release the new version of the book.
Sehwag has recently started celebrating birthdays on Twitter also. He felt that it is not only Tendulkar who deserves birthday wishes and celebrations but everyone should have a special day. “I wished Jimmy Anderson (James) on his birthday and before him, there was only one Anderson who was famous and that was Pamela Anderson” said Viru.
Every Indian remembers Greg Chappell’s infamous e-mail sent to BCCI against Saurav Ganguly during their Zimbabwe tour in the year 2005. Sehwag was probably the only other person to know at that moment that the Indian cricket team was to face the biggest historical revolution very soon. “I used to take rest while fielding. I need a break of minimum five overs. I always told the umpire that I had a bad stomach and used to leave the field. So Greg was writing his e-mail and I was sitting just next to him. I saw he was writing something to the BCCI and I went and told Dada about it. I told him he is writing something to the BCCI and it's something serious," says Virender Sehwag on Boria Majumdar’s book launch.
Sehwag added that Mr Majumdar always comes up with controversial questions on and off the field and this time is no exception. On questioning Sehwag that why did not he speak up before, he said in the most composed and diplomatic manner that “Nobody ever asked me anything about it. It was only you who questioned me on this and I said everything to you.”
On the final note, Virender Sehwag was asked to recollect the most unforgettable moment in the cricket career. "My first Test hundred," said the 39-year old Sehwag. “When I played ODIs, people said I can't play tests and can only score in white-ball cricket. So, when I scored my first test hundred and hugged Sourav Ganguly as he gave me chance to play in Tests. I wanted to prove myself,” he added.
