Indira Gandhi National Open University’s (IGNOU) ‘School of Vocational Education and Training’ has recently come out with a unique course of ‘Diploma in Modern Office Practice’ (DMOP).This first of its kind DMOP programme is a combination of conventional practices of Secretaries and Office Assistant’s job with computer aided management techniques. Secretaries and Office Assistants play a major role in daily functioning of an office and their roles have become quite versatile in the modern office setup. Being educated in Modern Office Practices will help these people to have a thorough knowledge of office management and procedures along with excellent communication and organization skills, which the current business environment demands. Following the competition of the course, the students will turn out to be multi-talented secretaries and office assistants. This course is expected to generate competent and skilled personnel at the entry level in any sector of employment. The Modern Office Practice course focuses on development in communication skills, proficiency in stenographic skills, competency in handling office machines, operating PC on windows operating system and understanding how to manage office records, filing and indexing, along with inventory control. The duration of the course will be from 1 year minimum to maximum 3 years and will be offered in both July and January admission cycle. The medium of instruction is going to be English and the course fee will be Rs 6,000.
