The US President is currently visiting India on a two day trip on February 24 & 25 and will be visiting New Delhi and Agra apart from Ahmedabad. Trump landed in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad Airport at 11.30 am along with his wife Melania, the first lady. From there the US President went directly to the Sabarmati Ashram where Mahatma Gandhi resided between 1917 and 1930 during India's freedom struggle. Both Trump and Melania tried their hands at spinning the Charkha with the help of workers present at the Sabarmati Ashram. The President and the first lady were welcomed to the ashram with flower garlands and Prime Minister Modi took the liberty to give them a brief tour of the place. Modi showed them ‘Hriday Kunj’, the room where Gandhiji and his wife Kasturba lived during India’s freedom struggle and explained how it played a key role for the freedom struggle of our great nation. Trump acknowledged Modi as his great friend and wrote in the visitor’s handbook of Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, “To my great friend Prime Minister Modi, Thank you for this wonderful visit!”, which was also signed by his wife Meliana Trump. The trip to the Sabarmati Ashram lasted for 15 minutes following which the Trumps left for the Motera stadium, the largest cricket stadium of the world.
