In order to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the partition of Bengal, director Leena Gangopadhyay and Saibal Banerjee came up with their joint venture ‘Mati’ under the banner of Magic Moments Motion Pictures.
On 30th April, Nandan was graced by the presence of the veteran actors like Sabitri Chatterjee, Madhabi Mukherjee, Santu Mukherjee, AnusuyaMajumdar, legendary singer Smt. Arati Mukherjee along with many others to launch the trailer of the forthcoming movie ‘Mati’ by Paoli Dam and internationally acclaimed actor Adil Hussain.
‘Mati’ comes up with the life story of Meghla and Jamil along with their perception of the partition of Bengal, refugees, border tensions and other related aspects. It will help our previous generations to relive the memories of losing their homes and mourning for their roots. It will depict the fact that when a family is uprooted from their birthplace, not only do they lose their homes, their entire life is shattered.
“We say that a movie comes out of a great piece of literature, but this movie has turned into a great work of literature. We remember Dickens along with many other Bengali writers while watching any movie. This movie is something like that. ‘Mati’ is an exclusive movie and I believe that this will spread just by the word of mouth. We thought of this movie for a long time. We all know that our country is the land of music. We sing in every occasion of ours.
When movies are made focusing on the two countries, the name that comes to our mind inevitably is Ritwik Ghatak. His impeccable use of music, that shocking music, how can I describe that? Madhabi Di is sitting right in front of me, she has worked with him. Therefore, she knows the best. Arati Di is here and I feel that she has made the most out of the songs of Tagore. Keeping all these things in mind, it was quite difficult to make a movie on such a concept. I depended on this concept of the movie based on the ideologies of Rituparno Ghosh. I tried my best and the rest is up to the audience,” said Debojyoti Mishra, the music director of the upcoming movie ‘Mati’.
