Board examinations are stuff of nightmares for students about to take the exams! The month long examination schedule almost takes your breath away and makes it difficult to eat sleep and probably even breathe. The exam fever is something which can even make you fall ill. You tend to forget what you have studied and panic strikes you when you least expect it to. Well, we say that there is actually nothing to worry about. You should take the Board exams like any other exam which you have taken. We know that it’s easier said than done, but perhaps some tips from our end might reduce your stress level during the exams and might help you to calm your nerves and also perform better. So, here it is:-
1. Eat Right: Eating right the most important thing you should do while your exams are on. You should have food at regular intervals. It keeps your mind healthy. Strictly avoid junk food, as it is a primary cause of stomach upset. Eat plenty of water, green vegetables, dry fruits and sprouts. These foods help you focus better.
2. Meditating: Do some meditation as meditation helps to increase your levels of concentration. Meditating for just 10-15 minutes in a day is enough for you to be more focused on anything you do.
3. Do not clutter your study space: Seeing a cluster of books and notes disturbs your mind and makes you even more nervous. So, before you sit to study, make sure you have your study table organized.
4. Take breaks: Do not constantly keep on studying for many hours at a stretch. Take those essential breaks in between studying. Constantly studying saturates and lowers the power and consuming capacity of your brain. It restrains the brain from absorbing anything further.
5. Sleep: Adequate sleep is a must during examinations. Remember, your brain is not a machine. It needs rest as well. Even machines need to rest! Depriving yourself of proper sleep can adversely affect your health and the power to retain whatever you have learnt.
6. Keep hydrated: Do not let your body get dehydrated. Drink plenty of water and a lot of fluids. Keeping your body hydrated keeps you stress free and also increases your energy levels. Fluids also prevent headaches. So, try adding juices, tender coconut water, buttermilk, lassi and soups to your daily diet during the exams.
7. Walk around: Just try taking a walk at regular intervals between studying. Walking makes you breathe in fresh air which is very effective for the mind as well as the body.
8. Prepare Flow Charts: Use flow charts to make your studies easier and smarter. Condense your long notes into points, flow charts or simple diagrams. This will help you to retain better whatever you have studied and will make the whole process of preparing for exams easier.
9. Explain: After finishing your studies, try and explain whatever you have studied to someone else. Probably to your mom if you can’t find anyone else! This will help you understand how much you have understood while making the concepts clearer for you.
10. Practice old question papers: Try solving old question papers again and again. This will help you get used to the question pattern. While you sit to solve the question papers, do not forget to set a time limit for yourself. This will help you to learn to finish your paper within the given time. Practice will surely go a long way to make you perfect.
To all of you appearing for the Board exams this year, we wish you GOOD LUCK!
