Does playing a sport for you mean running from one end of the field to the other? Do you need a change? We have a way out for you. Try underwater hockey; an upcoming sport, which can be played with ease at your nearby swimming pool. As easy and relaxing it may sound, it can put your stamina to the test.
Underwater hockey, also known as ‘Octopush’ was invented by the British Navy, 70 years ago to help their officers remain fit. Right after England, Australia took to this sport.
Okay, now if you’re scratching your head to figure out how underwater hockey is actually played; this is how:
Two teams compete to move a puck across the bottom of swimming pool into the opposing team's goal by pushing it forward with a hockey stick/bat. In order to register a goal, the players must remain underwater.
Each team has 10 players, out of which 6 players stay underwater and they are considered as active participants in the game. The other 4 will remain above the water surface as substitutes.
While the sport is a non-contact game, it can also turn rough and get physical. However, anyone can play provided you are fit to stay underwater for a while.
