Thundershowers to cool down Kolkata soon

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore has predicted that thundershowers might hit both North and South Bengal districts in the next three days. This prediction brings comfort to the residents of both North and South Bengal since the mercury has been touching almost 40 degree Celsius for the last few days. The city of Kolkata is currently experiencing the highest temperature of the season with the mercury level reaching 37.4 degree Celsius, which is two degrees more than the normal temperature. South Bengal at present is experiencing hot and humid climate with districts like Bankura, Purulia, Jhargram and West Midnapore facing highest temperature levels. The weather currently is very uncomfortable due to the high humidity level, which is standing at 90%. Sanjib Bandyopadhyay, Deputy Director General of the Regional Meteorological Centre said, "A strong Western disturbance has been located over Pakistan and it has already started moving towards the Eastern direction, bringing rain in North Indian states. It will move further towards the East and is expected to reach Jharkhand in the next 24 hours". Bandyopadhyay added, "A hailstorm is also expected in various districts of South Bengal on April 18. The mercury may slide down by a few notches in the Western districts like Bankura, Purulia and Jhargram during the day, bringing some relief to the people. The sky may remain cloudy in several parts of South Bengal on Wednesday afternoon". Due to the Western disturbances, thunderstorm accompanied by rain is expected in Bengal in the next 72 hours.
