Due to problems between director Rahul Mukherjee and technicians, the Tollywood industry is practically at a standstill. Nearly 210 directors have announced that they will not come to work. Director and MLA Raj Chakraborty told that the Federation has been given a two-day deadline from Saturday to resolve the issue, or else directors will not join the shooting for an indefinite period.
The incident started around a shooting by director Rahul Mukhopadhyay. The Federation accused Rahul of leaving for Bangladesh to complete the remaining part of a web series without informing anyone just four days after starting work in Tollygunge. The Federation claimed this action was against policy and called for a boycott of Rahul. Initially, the Directors Guild was also angered by this incident and suspended Rahul for three months, despite him being a member. However, they later revoked the suspension order.
On Saturday, July 27, technicians did not show up for a shoot of the production company SVF. Actors like Prosenjit Chatterjee and Anirban Bhattacharya waited for a long time, but the shoot could not commence. After that, directors, producers, and actors collectively protested against the Federation.
Notably, a meeting has been called on Monday at Prosenjit Chatterjee's house, where Tollywood directors and producers like Sudeshna Roy, Raj Chakraborty, Shiboprosad Mukherjee, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Subrata Sen will be included. The entire Tollywood community is concerned about whether any solution can be found for this deadlock.
