Currently, Earth is under siege! No… Not by any terrorist organisation or an extraterrestrial army but by humanity itself. Despite being aware of the ramifications, man has continued on the path of destruction for the sake of scientific progress. With uncountable digital devices around, susceptibility to certain radiations is unavoidable. Blue light, emitted from digital screens, is proven to be pernicious to the human health and psyche, to a large extent.
Light is made up of particles that travel in waves and emit energy. The wavelengths are grouped into one electromagnetic spectrum consisting of UV-rays, infrared rays, visible light, radio waves and others. The visible light, made up of the colours VIBGYOR, is perceived by the human eye. Blue light produces higher amount of energy, so, a prolonged exposure may cause some serious health issues.
It is not an unknown fact that most of us spend our waking hours with eyes glued to some sort of digital screen, be it cellphones or computers or televisions. Advancement in digital screen technology accompanied the use of LEDs which emit quite strong blue light waves. As almost every cellphone and digital monitors have an LED source, these gadgets, which are used rampantly by people, bring about massive exposure to the blue light radiation. From cases of splitting headaches, eyestrain and fatigue to severe retinal damage and permanent loss of eyesight, blue light is known to wreck havoc on mankind. Almost everybody with access to technology, seven to seventy are prone to even further horrors. Staring at the bright screen for hours in relative darkness can lower the production of melatonin, the hormone that regulates sleep which, in turn, can be the root cause of obesity, diabetes, mental disorders and a few forms of cancer.
The 21st century is established on scientific ideologies. It is, therefore, not easy to separate oneself from technology. Our daily lives revolve around those illuminated devices. But is it advisable to deliberately walk on the road to slow suicide, knowing what is at stake?
