An educated man from Kerala has set a new example of simplicity and humility. Ajith KP is a proud PhD holder from the Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University in Kerala and an auto rickshaw driver as well! Yes, you read that correct – an auto rickshaw driver with a PhD. Ajith has come a long way and struggled a lot in life. Living in a house with no electricity, working in stone quarries, and selling fish to support his family; he has done it all to keep going in life. The PhD holder started driving an auto-rickshaw to earn some extra cash during his final year of college and he has been doing that ever since. Ajith received his PhD on ‘Popular Culture and Theatre Songs’ last July and works as a guest lecturer at the C Achutha Menon Government College, Thrissur. However, that did not stop him from driving his auto-rickshaw on weekends. He considers driving the auto rickshaw a way to serve the society. Ajith says, “I’ve taken many patients and elderly people to hospitals. I’ve learnt many things from conversing with them. It has made me a better person. Many of my passengers have helped me in becoming what I’m now. So I will continue to be an auto-rickshaw driver”. He added, “I wished to be a driver since childhood and I’m doing it now. Also, I’m able to impart knowledge to many students now, which I never thought of. I passed Class X examinations in the second attempt. It took me four attempts to clear the NET. We should face failures in life, and then only we will fight it. This will strengthen our character". Ajith has recently cleared the National Eligibility Test and is currently preparing for Public Service Commission Examination. However, he says that it was his childhood dream to drive an auto-rickshaw and he will continue to do so.
