The 42, the tallest building in Kolkata with 61 floors which is yet to be completed is now getting taller. Four new floors will now be added to the 61 storeyed building after getting a sanction from the city’s civic body. The ‘42’ situated at Jawaharlal Nehru Road will now have 65 floors. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation allowed the construction of four new floors after a revision of rule related to buildings being constructed within a kilometer of the Metro Railway corridor took place. After the revision of the rules, the extra floor-area ratio (FAR) for buildings within 1km of the Metro Railway corridor is now allowed and hence KMC will now be able to allow construction of additional floors to high-rises. The 42 will now be 249m tall, which is 12 m taller than the initial plan. Chowringhee Residency Pvt Ltd and Mumbai-based Hafeez Contractor are the two architects of the building. The initial building plan of the ‘42’ was approved back in 2014, and since then the KMC building rules have been amended twice.
