The Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore has recently predicted that the temperature of the city may go down in the next 48 hours. The light rainfall which occurred on Thursday had already indicated that the mercury will dip in the city and winter chill is all set to be back in the city. However, the Meteorological Department has reported that there will be no further rainfall in the South Bengal districts. The temperature in North Bengal is also expected to go further down with prediction of snowfall in Darjeeling over the next 24 hours. Both South and North Bengal districts will experience a cold wave situation in the next few days. A weather official of the Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore said, "The North Bengal districts may witness the coldest day of this season in the next few days as the temperature will go down by a few notches. However, it may drizzle in some parts of North Bengal. The temperature in South Bengal districts will drop by 2-3 degree in the next two days. There may be a thick fog in the air particularly in the morning hours and it will disappear as the day will progress”. Places like Jhargram, West Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura, Birbhum and West Burdwan will experience slightly lower temperature than that of Kolkata. A cold breeze is expected to sweep through all the South Bengal districts during the morning and evening hours.
