Suman Mukhopadhyay, who has been out of Kolkata for almost three years, feels that he does not miss Kolkata very much. He is busy with his work in Mumbai and does intend to come back. Mumbai has given him better openings to work independently. He was feeling claustrophobic in the city of joy. So he eventually moved to Mumbai.
Although Suman Mukhopadhyay does not enjoy everything about Mumbai, he feels it a much better place to stay. He never made too many friends but he is still in touch with Kaushik Sen and Bratya Basu from Kolkata. Talking about Swastika, he said that he is still in touch with her, but not very much. He also wants to be in touch with Kolkata but presently it is not possible for him to move.
Interestingly, after moving to Mumbai, Mukhopadhyay stopped working in Bengali theatres and feels that creators are not taking time to make something new and challenging. All they believe in is making some stereotype plays and regrets that even the younger generation has no plans to go beyond the typecast thoughts.
