State of the art library set up at Nazrul Tirtha

The government of West Bengal has set up a state-of-the-art library at Nazrul Tirtha in New Town. This new library was recently inaugurated by the Minister of State for Fire and Emergency Services Sujit Bose. Chairman of Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) Debashis Sen and painter Suvaprasanna were two of the other dignitaries present during the inauguration of the library at New Town. The library also has a section which houses an archive on Kazi Nazrul Islam. The library is situated on the third and fourth floors of Nazrul Tirtha and has all modern facilities. It will use RFID technology (Radio-frequency identification) to issue books through smart kiosks and returns can be made through a drop box at any time. The library will also offer German and French languages classes and counselling for students pursuing higher education. E-book readers too can get reading access to the newest publications since books in the library can be accessed through a digital catalogue. A special children’s section has been set up in the library along with compact seminar rooms. There will be a coffee corner for the readers if they need to get refreshed. The library has tied up with NDL (National Digital Library) which will help it to expand the access of books. Currently there are 4,500 books in the library for the readers; however, the designed space is for 20,000 books.
