West Bengal initiates online mutation process, so that people won’t be harassed by third parties and run aimlessly for seeking approval. The sate cabinet made the entire process online, which according to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is a “revolutionary” step in the development of the city. People won’t need a visit to BLRO office for mutation. Around 12 lakh people would benefit from this program, as per the chief minister who has knowledge about brokers harassing the people. Having already waived the mutation fees for the farmers, now the purchase and sale of the farmland will become easier. This would also help the land character remain unaltered. The “Record of Rights” requires all land records, including ‘parcha’ an official paper bearing the name of the original owner of the land. The digital land records would now be synced and the government has decided to transfer possession rights to the people.
