The State government is planning to introduce English-medium facilities in 65 schools where the medium of instruction was Bengali. Education minister, Partha Chatterjee told that the Bengali- medium will continue to exist in these schools but English medium instructions will be followed. English medium instructions are likely to commence from January 2019. In context to the change of the education system in Bengali medium schools, Education minister, Partha Chatterjee said that,
We have plans to introduce English as a medium of instruction in 100 schools. This will take some time, but at present, English-medium will be introduced in 65 schools. The new schools that will be set up will have English-medium facilities right from pre-primary to higher secondary level, while the 65 schools which have been identified initially will have English-medium facilities from class 5.
