The St. Paul’s Cathedral is all set to be renovated, and as Christmas is along the way, the construction work will commence soon. The impact from the Sikkim and Northeast earthquakes and tremors seemed to have left the eastern facade of the church scarred. The 171 year old structure has definitely been affected, as certain portions have sunk and small fissures can be observed from ground to the top. The report was prepared by the heritage conservationists for the Kolkata Diocese of the Church of North India, after careful examination of the structure for a year. Further damage would be inevitable if necessary precaution is not taken immediately, and as per the report and planning in process, the refurbishment would start from early January. The total reconstruction process is estimated to cost around Rs 4 crores. The building had already received fresh paint coatings, thus hiding the cracks and soon the cathedral would be ready with a complete new outlook.
