Special trains for Chhath Puja

The Eastern division of Indian Railways has decided to operate special trains in order to manage the heavy rush of passengers during the Chhath Puja this year. A senior official of the Eastern Railway said, 

There is a huge rush of passengers during the Chhath Puja. These trains have been introduced to cater to this crowd traveling to and from the city. 

A special train ‘Kolkata-Alipurduar Special’ will operate from the Kolkata station at 10.10 pm on Sundays and Wednesdays on November 3, 6, 10, 13 and 17 and reach Alipurduar station at 2 pm on the next day after departure. The return train ‘Alipurduar-Kolkata Special’ will start from Alipurduar station at 5 pm on Mondays and Thursdays on November 4, 7, 11, 14 and 18 and reach Kolkata station at 10:15 am on the next day as well. Apart from this, nine pairs of Bi-weekly Puja specials will operate in this route along with five others. Altogether fourteen Bi-Weekly Specials will be running during this Chhath Puja season. These trains will have both sleeper class and air-conditioned coaches. South Eastern division of Indian Railways too will run a pair of unreserved special trains between Santragachi and Barauni via Tatanagar on November 1 which will return from Barauni on November 3. An official of the South Eastern Railway said,

Special train consisting of 16 general second class coaches will have stoppages at Kharagpur, Tatanagar, Chandil, Purulia, JoychandiPahar, Asansol, Chittaranjan, Madhupur, Jasidih, Jhajha, and Kiul between Santragachi and Barauni
