The State Government of West Bengal has introduced the Social Security Yojana by combining five separate beneficiary schemes for workers in the unorganized sectors and for self-employed people.
The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting held on 17th April, 2017. The meeting was led by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Around 5 crore people will be benefitted with the introduction of Social Security Yojana with around 1 crore direct beneficiaries.
Amit Mitra, the state Finance minister, said: "The decision in this regard was taken up in Monday's Cabinet meeting headed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. State Assistance Scheme for Provident Fund for Unorganised Sector, West Bengal Unorganised Sector workers' Health Security Scheme, Secoail Security scheme for Construction Workers, West Bengal Transport Workers Social Security Scheme and West Bengal Bidi Workers Welfare Scheme are being converged."
