In order to create a talent pool in the state, the West Bengal government is aiming to impart skill-based training to six lakh people every year. According to Purnendu Basu, the state’s minister for skill development, technical education and training, the training would be provided by the government through its polytechnics, ITIs, and private institutes. A target has been set to increase the number each year by 10%. PurnenduBasu also mentioned that the state government’s flagship scheme ‘Utkarsh Bangla’ has helped in broadening the canvas of the skilled ecosystem and allowed the convergence of various departments. The programme of ‘Utkarsh Bangla’ was started with an aim to provide the unemployed people with a vocational training. The initiative would also help the people of Bengal compete with the other states in the employment sector. This is an important step for the progress of Bengal, and the people are optimistic about this programme. All the skill development activities in Bengal is conducted by the nodal department, The Paschim Banga Society for Skill Development (PBSSD).
