Singer Haimanti Shukla awarded with Sangeet Samman

Singer Haimanti Shukla has been awarded ‘Sangeet Samman’ by Mayor Firhad Hakim at the inaugural session of the 67th Dover Lane Music Conference. The event took place at Nazrul Mancha from January 22 to 25. Debashish Kumar, Mayor-in-Council (Parks and Squares), Sanjay Budhia, Managing Director of Patton Group and B K Chandra, Chairman of P C Chandra Group graced the inaugural session. The evening session started with a performance by vocalist Haimanti Sukla herself. Shukla, 69, had received her basic training in Hindustani classical music from her father Pandit Harihar Shukla. Later she started her on stage performances from 1970. She recorded her first song in 1972.  Shukla has also sung in several popular Bengali films.
