Satyajit Ray, no words are enough to describe the legacy left behind by him. The man who almost spearheaded a new- wave in Indian cinema and guided it in the global arena. He was an Indian filmmaker, screenwriter graphic artist, music composer and author, widely regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century. On his 97th birth anniversary of the legend, let’s remember a flash back of his creations. Ray worked prominently in Bengali cinema and has been regarded as one of the great directors of world cinema. Ray received numerous awards at international film festivals, including several Indian national film awards and an honorary Oscar the 64th academy awards in 1992.
Ray intended to make various films other than Bengali his widely acclaimed oeuvre of films such as Pather Panchali , Aparajito, Apur sansar and many more. He has also made widely acclaimed Hindi films such as Shatranj ke khilari , Sadgati, Kissa Kathmandu ka , Bombay talkies and Goopi Gawaiya Bagha Bajaiya .
SHATRANJ KE KHILARI is based on Munshi Premchand’s short story. It showcases the life of people in India in the 19th century . It places emphasis on Indian rebellion of 1857. The movie shows the politics around the colonial expansion by the British east India company. 
SADGATI is a vicious indictment of the Indian caste system. It’s a story of a shoe mender who goes to the village to fix the marriage of his daughter. 
BOMBAY TALKIES is an adaption of Satyajit Ray’s short story named patol babu, film star. A failed actor is struggling to make a living after his father’s death.
