Sankalita’s take on ‘Bochhor Tirish Por’

On a lazy Thursday afternoon, Jiyo Bangla’s office called up “Bochhor Tirish Por” actress Sankalita Roy for an interview about her character and her take on it. The actress worked under Suman Adhikari’s directorial, spared few minutes for the interview in spite of her busy schedule. She rendered very short and crisp answers. In a telephonic interview we asked her afew questions and she answered those questions very smoothly without any bottleneck.

Read her answers here:

  • How was the experience working with Suman Adhikari’s direction?

“Well, I have worked with him previously though, but working with him was a bad experience. Jokes apart. Obviously, it was a fruitful for the project.”

  • Was it tough to play the character Nirupama? Could you relate to the character?

“Well, the answer is No! I could not relate to her directly, She is a woman from the late 30’s, but I tried my level best to play the character who belonged from the 30’s era and a woman who stay andarmahal.”

  • Can you recall any hilarious moment from the movie?

“Well of Couse. I can still recall it. Shooting the death scene was tremendously hilarious and I shall not forget it all my life. The feeling of dying when you’re alive is extremely different. Shooting that scene, I was really scared and it felt weird. The villagers were so much into the scene that they started shedding tears, you know. I mean it was the first day of the shoot and on that very first day, I experienced such a feeling. It is inexplicable really. Simply inexplicable.”

  • Not known to everyone the script is written by you. How did it feel like to script write the story?

“I must say it wasn’t tough. Never faced such hindrances because it’s a short story based on Bibhutibhusan Bandopadhyay’s “Chithi”. While re-writing the script it felt really good to culminate my writing.”

  • Can we expect you to write scripts again in near future? Is there any such possibility?

“Yes, the audience might. I don’t know. No idea. If I receive any good stories, who knows I can pen down a script again. Won’t debar from the opportunity.”

  • Actor Roy and RJ Roy, the same person with two distinct personalities. How was it to work with him?

“Roy is a good actor. He has faced the camera several times and he knows how things work. It was comfortable to share and work with him.”

  • Will the audience witness Sankalita-Roy’s Jodi once again on the silver screen?

“The truth is I don’t know. It may or may not. Depending on the script you know. If the script demands that and if fortunes favor the yes, the audience will witness our Jodi.”

  • Ok, the Last question- Apart from the death scene, any other tremendous hilarious moment that you can recall?

“Well, yes there are many. Instead of a cart driven by a cow, we had to use a bullock cart. It was really scary and funny at the same time. There is one more incident that I can recall right now, there was a scene where I had to get down in a pond and the pond was rumored to be full of snakes. I literally cried during the shoot. That was a hilarious one though.”
