Sangrami Maa Mati Manush, a renowned weekly magazine organized a daylong seminar on ‘Uccho o Karigari Shikkhar Prosare Paschimbanga’ at Ashutosh Cenetenary Hall today.
The seminar started with the inaugural programme graced by Chief Guest Shri. Partha Chatterjee, Hon’ble Minister-In-Charge for School Education, Higher Education, West Bengal.
The event also witnessed the esteemed presence of Shri Purnendu Bose, Hon’ble Minister in Charge for Technical Education, Training and Skill Development, Govt. of West Bengal; along with academicians like Professor Sadhan Chakraborty, Professor Saikat Mitra, Mr. Karanjit Singh and Mr. Phalguni Mukhopadhyay.
The seminar aimed at providing information to people regarding the betterment of education, especially in the domain of higher and technical education in West Bengal.
The inaugural speech was delivered by Shri. Partha Chatterjee. While stressing on the importance of elementary education as a strong foundation for the future; he pointed out that Hon’ble Chief Minister of Bengal, Smt. Mamata Banerjee has given huge importance to the development of Primary education in Bengal, by starting 7500 new primary schools in Bengal along with 47 new colleges. He added that since 2012, the number of existing Universities in Bengal has increased from 13 to 36. This has resulted not only in increase of education facilities but also created many employment opportunities for new teachers.
He further stressed that the Government of West Bengal have increased the budget allocated for upliftment of financially challenged meritorious students from Rs. 40 crore to Rs. 200 crore, which is testimony to the huge strides taken forward towards education in West Bengal.
Following the inaugural speech, Shri Purnendu Bose highlighted that the present Government of West Bengal have increased the number Government polytechnic education institutes from 40 to 80. He also mentioned that the Government is looking into the importance of implementing the provisions of Apprentices Act, 1961 to different industries in West Bengal for creation of skilled technical workers or semi-skilled engineers.
Professor Sadhan Chakraborty from Kazi Nazrul University delivered his speech on the importance towards introduction of Information Communication Technology which includes online admission systems and e-governance. He mentioned a huge change in the education system through the introduction of Choice Based Credit System, which provides choice for students to select from the prescribed courses (core, elective or minor or soft skill courses), helping students with skill development and thus creates more job opportunities for them. He highlighted that the percentage of male students admitted this year is 37.93% while the percentage of female students admitted is 62.07%, which is indicative of the strides taken forward in women empowerment in the field of higher education.
Lastly, Professor Saikat Mitra focused on the opening of a new technological university of international standards in Haringhata with help provided by the Government of West Bengal. This has paved way for cutting edge research in collaboration with international universities. The syllabus is going through a numerous reforms to help students cope with new employment opportunities following the technological revolution on a global scale such as cloud computing, nano-technology, cyber security, big data, robotics, artificial intelligence etc. which shall collectively act as a catalyst for growth of the Indian economy.
