Roadside vendors to get gas connections

In order to reduce air pollution of the city, the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) has decided to implement a ban on coal or wood fired ovens used by the roadside vendors which add to the high air pollution levels of the city. For implementing this without affecting these road side vendors who generally use open chullahs for cooking, WBPCB has decided to provide LPG gas connections to them. Rajesh Kumar, secretary of WBPCB during a recent meeting with a NGO - Concern for Calcutta said, “The pollution control body plans to offer environment-friendly LPG cylinders to food vendors with the support of oil brands like Indian Oil Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation”. Kumar also said that strict legal actions will be taken against those vendors who are going to violate the ban on solid fuels like coal or wood.
