Renowned Bengali Director Utpalendu Chakrabarty Passes Away at 78

Renowned director Utpalendu Chakrabarty passed away on August 20th at his residence in South Kolkata.

His health had been deteriorating for some time. He also suffered from memory loss, prostate issues, and COPD. On Tuesday evening, suddenly his health condition worsened. The doctor confirmed he had suffered a heart attack. The film industry is in shock at this news.

In the 1980s, Utpalendu Chakrabarty created award-winning films like "Moynatodonto," "Chokh," "Debshishu," etc. He also received the Best Director award in 1982, for his directed film "Chokh".

Utpalendu's wife is director Satarupa Sanyal. They have two daughters, Chitrangada Satarupa and Ritabhari Chakrabarty, both are established actresses in Tollywood. Many years ago, Satarupa had accused her former husband of domestic violence and started living separately. But today, she holds no grievances. She wrote, "The man is gone. What is the point of talking about the dark side of our lives? Let all the darkness be reduced to ashes with his mortal remains. Let only the good remain."

Additionally, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences on the director’s passing.
