Director Ujjwal Basu’s film ‘Doodh Pither Gachh’ is slightly different from the random Tollywood new ventures. You may ask what is so special about this movie. Well, this movie is funded by 930 families from the village ‘Aranghata’ in the district of Nadia and 196 cine-lovers from within the country and abroad.
A press conference was held on 13th March. The story of Doodh Pither Gachh revolves around Gour (Harsil Das), a 7 years old country boy, who can’t speak properly due to speech disorder. This leads to a serious issue where he becomes laughing stock even among his acquaintances. His eyes are filled with naughtiness and frisky activities. His eyes are filled with imperishable dreams. But interestingly, he believes that rice cake tree exist likewise other fruit bearing trees.
From his belief he sows a rice cake, waters it and waits for the sprouting. One day to his surprise, he finds a seedling on that place; he asks his grandmother (played by Shibani Maity), ‘Is this a rice cake tree?’ She smiles and indulges which invigorates his belief.
Things changes, when he runs away from his village and catches a train which according to him will carry him to his dreamland. Question remains what will happen to Gour? Will he reach his dreamland? Apart from the protagonist, Debangana Gon, Riya Das, Daminee Benny Basu, Kaushik Roy will be playing key roles in this movie. Music score by Joy Sarkar.
