The Victoria Memorial authority has decided that from 15th of May visitors will be permitted to take photographs inside the galleries. But, tripods and flashes are not allowed.
Victoria Memorial draws thousands of tourists every year. The authority has taken this decision so that the museum attracts more tourists. Jayanta Sengupta, the curator and the secretary of the museum says this "could further increase footfall to the most visited monument in India".
Formerly, the galleries were open to the tourist but photography was not allowed. It wasn’t allowed because it was believed that the public would not drop in the museum if they get to see the enchanting photographs beforehand, in the social media.
But now the curator of the museum believes that such downfall will not occur, instead this step would allow more footfalls in the museum. She says, "The theory has been found to be untrue. The more people click pictures and post them on social media, the number of people will see them and would want to visit to see the things for real. Allowing photography will only increase footfall,"
Victoria Memorial is a museum which till date has preserved the ancient art and culture of India as well as the works of European artist.
