Queer an Entrepreneur

Riju Banerjee

23years,Entrepreneur

Life is a journey and along with it comes the barriers and boundaries. The design on the curtains is not what they conceal. Artists shrug off the robe and express. Talking about an entrepreneur, who socially got recognition and appreciated, Riju Bannerjee. Riju Banerjee, belonging from the queer gender had imbibed the idea of breaking gender bias stereotypes. A person so early at the age of 21 years wanted to make a social change. “At one point being bullied was a mundane phase, which only got me the strength to reach out more. This would never have been possible if my parents wouldn’t have been liberal and supportive.” I knew nothing before Change Loom happened in my life. Being amongst the credible few, who thinks of bringing a social change as a queer gender is not a cake walk. The association of Riju Banerjee have also been with different NGOs and contributing towards the marginalized youth of the society. Volunteering with CRY was also a part. After all these the inner soul of Riju Banerjee was craving a want, the want to bring a change from the grassroot level of the society. Change Loom gave me the opportunity to reach the mass with the film Open to All. The film was first screened at Commutiny-The Youth(CYC) in New Delhi, the Academy of Fine Arts(Kolkata), Rangamati Fim Festival(Q Film Festival supported by Prantokotha (Birbhum,West Bengal), Madhobilota festival (Kolkata) and very recently in 2017 at Dialogue, Queer Film Festival. I could reach the social people with 5th Space Bioscope on YouTube.

The roots build a tree then with help of the environment it grows green beautifully,Riju Banerjee’s topic of breaking the gender bias stereotypes has already reached widespread through conversation and discussions amongst the youth through the social media and that is where he stands firm as a social entrepreneur.
