Director Srijit Mukherjee is all set to remake the 1968 Uttam Kumar and Supriya Devi starrer Chowringhee. This film too shall be based on the popular Bengali author Mani Shankar’s Mukhopadhyay’s novel. The popular Bengali classic has also been translated into a number of Indian as well as Foreign adaptions. The film will be produced by Srijit’s own production house in collaboration with SVF.
Srijit said that he fell in love with the novel when he read it for the very first time back in the 1990's. Since then he wanted it to deck in front of his audience. Srijit further added that he never knew anything about the hotel-hospitality industry and wants to depict it in his own way as it has changed over the years.
Shooting is supposed to start from April with some promising and prominent faces from Bengali Industry.
Superstar Prosenjit Chattejee has been cast as Satyasundar (Sata) Bose. Abir chatterjee will essay the role of Shankar. Meanwhile, Mamata Shankar has roped in the role of socialite Mrs Pakrashi. Jissu Sengupta is expected to be her onscreen son Anindya’s role, who is a flamboyant playboy. Even Bangladeshi Actress Jaya Ahsan will play the role of a housekeeper and high profile escort Karabi Guha. Actor-director Anjan Dutt shall be cast in the role of Marco polo, the owner of the hotel.
