Professor Shonku Get’s life

The fictional character Trilokeshwar Shonku commonly known as Professor Shonku was created by Satyajit Ray in 1965. Several stories from the series was voiced on air in Sunday Suspense but this is the first time the character has been decided to give life to.

Satyajit Ray’s son Sandip Ray has planned successfully to bring Professor Shonku on the big screen. The character has always been eccentric to him. Professor Shonku who is a multilingual scientist has several discoveries and dens in Giridih with his pet cat Newton and spends most his time in the laboratory. Known to have done a double graduation in Physics and Chemistry respectively by the age of 18 had become a professor at The Scottish Church College, Calcutta at the age of 20. Professor Shonku is a typical mysterious eccentric fictional unlike Feluda which has gained immense success in all the releases with his strong detective skills.

Feluda as created by Ray was the typical Bengali version of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes while Tilokeshwar Shonku is again an identical of Arthur Conan Doyle’s fictional character George Edward Challenger, better known as Professor Challenger.

Sandip Ray without second thoughts has decided to cast veteran actor Dhritiman Chatterjee who is presently of 72 as Professor Shonku as he thinks that the actor perfectly justifies the character and fit perfectly into it. This is the first movie of the Professor Shonku series that is about to get filmed. Out of all the exciting stories of the series, Sandip Ray has decided to make the first film on ‘Nakur Babu O El Dorado.’ The film which is to be produced by SVF Entertainment is expected to be released by the end of 2018. It is heard to be bilingual and be shot in both West Bengal, Brazil and the forests of South America. After constant successes of several Feluda films directed by Sandip Ray, deciding to make Professor Shonku is a real big challenge as the stories are of complete opposite genres. Though the base audience is not just restrained to Bengal since it’s a bilingual film but SVF believes Bengal to be the main market for the film and expects for the major turnover from Bengal itself.

Hoping for visual change, this happens to be a cause for Sandip Ray to make the film, as he thinks this to be the right time to make such a film, because of the immense technological and visual advancements. Changes are said to be good, hope this change turns out to be too.
