Presidency University gets its second campus at New Town which covers an area of 10 acres. The new campus of the esteemed institution will consist of five advanced study centers to be situated into the two buildings inside the campus. Both the buildings are fitted with central air condition along with state of the art fire fighting and fire warning systems. The new campus will house a school of biotechnology, school of crop technology, school of astrophysics, school of earth sciences, school of public policy and a school of data informatics & cybersecurity. The new campus was built at a cost of RS 183 cores and it took two years for the construction work to be completed. The campus features smart classrooms, advanced laboratories and a telescope for students to observe the night sky or study constellations. There is also a playground situated between the two 14 storeyed buildings. The new campus was officially inaugurated by the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee on February 17 and she said, “I often ask students why they are leaving Bengal to study. They always reply that the courses they want to pursue aren’t offered in any university here. There is a big demand for data sciences and I am happy that new subjects are being offered here”. Anuradha Lohia, the vice-chancellor said, “We have been able to take Presidency University to such levels only with the support of our chief minister”. The classes are expected to start on the new campus in July 2019.
