Port Trust plans to set up tea park

Kolkata Port Trust (KPT) is currently planning to set up a tea park in East Midnapore and Sankrail. Port Trust has land in both the areas of Panskura in East Midnapore and Panchpara in Sankrail where it wants to set up the tea park. KPT has already started discussions regarding this with the Tea Board. Chairman of Kolkata Port Trust, Vinit Kumar said,

We have already held talks with the Tea Board and the tea fraternity and discussed our plans for the proposed tea park. We have 30 acres of land at Panskura and also at Panchpara where land can be utilised for the tea park.

The initial plans suggest that the land will be provided by the Port Trust, along with some basic infrastructure and the tea park will be developed by tea garden owners. Such a similar tea park was set up in Siliguri where the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority had provided 59.5 acres of land.
