Pin Code: How is the PIN code structured?

The PIN code is a very important number in our daily lives. Whether it is used to enter an address, send a letter, or make deliveries, this code is essential everywhere. But do you know how this PIN code is structured?

The full form of the PIN code is "Postal Index Number." Sriram Bhikaji, a senior officer of the then Ministry of Communications, introduced the PIN code system on August 15, 1972. Since then, this code has played a vital role in various aspects of our daily lives. Its structure is also quite unique.

In India, a PIN code consists of six digits. It allows specific regions to be uniquely identified. However, the most crucial part is the meaning of each of the six digits:

• The first digit represents the region.
• The second digit denotes the sub-zone.
• The third digit represents a part of the district.
• The last three digits identify the specific post office of that location.
