Not the Hanging Gardens of Babylon!

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon evoke a romantic picture of lush greenery and colourful flowers cascading from the sky. According to ancient study, Nebuchadnezzar had the Hanging Gardens built around 600 BC for his beautiful wife Amytis. But, it seems that Malda has something in common with The Hanging Garden of Babylon. It is still believed that the grandeur of the hanging gardens is awe-inspiring, which is why it is considered as one among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

We do not know whether the Greeks really made the hanging gardens or not. However, Malda seems to have created something similar to The Hanging Gardens.

English Bazar (Malda) which was once used as a dumping ground was renovated recently! In addition, the dumping ground was replaced by an aesthetically pleasing hanging garden! This garden is set in the heart of the town at Rathbari.

A plot close to the Rail Gate area where ditches and ponds were filled up, the authority of English Bazar Municipality planned to renovate this place, long back in 2016. For the longest time, this place has been a breeding ground for mosquitos. A hanging garden was made with a children’s park and provision for elderly people to walk and relax. The entire project stretches from Kothabari to Mission Ghat on the banks of Mahananda.
