The Meteorological office stated, Calcutta has received rain almost every day in July but the amount has been low by monsoon standards. As per information, the dearth of heavy rainfall has led to a monthly deficit of 50 percent.
According to news, the first 15 days of July last year bought 308.5 mm of rain to Kolkatans. Whereas, the statistics for the same period this year is 96.6 mm. A huge difference of 211.9 mm of rain suffered by West Bengal dwellers this year. "Calcutta has received regular rain so far this July but the amount has been less because the moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal into the city has been low," Director IMD of Calcutta G.K. Das said. "The reason behind this is primarily the lack of strong weather systems on the Bay ", he added.
