No mobile phones in Madhyamik centres

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education has imposed a complete ban on mobile phones in examination centres during the madhyamik examinations. Both teachers and students along with non-teachings staffs of the school are being restricted to carry mobile phones inside the examination centres. Unlike last year, teachers will not be allowed to deposit the mobile phones in the headmaster’s office after switching them off as they did till this year. Most likely arrangements will be made outside the examination centres for the teachers and non-teachings staffs for depositing their mobiles. According to the board, only four individuals - the officer in-charge, centre secretary, venue supervisor and additional venue supervisor appointed by the board will be allowed to carry mobile phones inside the examination centres. These individuals will be allowed to use the mobile phones inside the centres in order to communicate with the board officials. Kalyanmoy Ganguly, President of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education said, “No teacher, invigilator or non-teaching employee will be allowed to enter the examination venues with cell phones. Till last year, if any teacher or invigilator or any member of the non-teaching staff carried the device, it had to be deposited with the headmaster. They could collect the cell phone after the test. Even this will not be allowed this time”. The 2020 Madhyamik examination is scheduled to commence from February 18.
